Our Vision

Principles, Aims and Values

At Howard Community Primary School we believe that:

All children should feel included, secure and valued within a rich and stimulating environment, which includes high quality education and care.

We should value each member of the school community and work together to develop effective relationships among parents, staff, children and governors.

We should encourage children to develop respect for self, others and their environment.

Effective education requires both a relevant curriculum and staff who understand and are able to implement the curriculum requirements.

Therefore we aim to:

Instil a passion for learning in each child through bringing subjects alive and making them relevant to the learner's wider goals.

Set high expectations and give every learner the confidence so that they can succeed by recognising and raising their aspirations.

Be effective: the curriculum should be carefully structured allowing for flexibility in the way in which we meet our children's needs.

Create a secure foundation for subsequent learning and set clear and appropriate learning goals based on assessment and performance data.

Make learning enjoyable and challenging using teaching methods that reflect the material to be learned and the learning preferences of the children.

Engage children in the learning process: activities will be well planned and purposeful with appropriate intervention by all involved adults.

Provide activities that are challenging, enjoyable and encourage independent learning.

Ensure that each child will be an active partner in their learning.

Ensure that all our children will develop excellent learning skills and personal qualities by thinking systematically, learning from others, being confident, and having self-discipline.

Set high expectations and give every learner the confidence that they can succeed.

We believe that education is also a route to equality of opportunity for all, a healthy and just democracy, a productive economy, and sustainable development. Education should reflect the enduring values that contribute to these ends. These include valuing ourselves, our families and other relationships, the wider groups to which we belong, the diversity in our society and the environment in which we live. Education should also reaffirm our commitment to the virtues of truth, justice, honesty, trust and a sense of duty. The education we provide at Howard Community Primary School will help our children become thinking, independent citizens. They will be confident and have skills and judgements that affect their own lives and their own environment in a positive way
